Many of us come to Comic-Con ready to talk nerdy about obscure characters that have only appeared in an out-of-continuity one-shot. There is, however, an understood love we have for the most basic, universal characters. To some, Superman, is comic books. And it's time to bring him back to comic book movies.

If there's one thing movie fans have seen over the years, it's that Superman is a tough nut to crack when it comes to making him work on film. Can the combined efforts of director Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan deliver what 'Superman Returns' failed to deliver? Can 'Man of Steel' reinvent Superman for modern audiences? To date, we haven't seen much from 'Pacific Rim' and Guillermo del Toro wants to keep it that way. He had some footage to show the Comic-Con 2012 audience but said he has no plans for that footage to go public and that after Comic-Con, the film will go into radio silence until 2013. And that's too bad for everyone who wasn't there because 'Pacific Rim' knocked the socks off of Hall H.

In between the Pacific Rim and Hobbit footage showcased at the Comic-Con 2012 Warner Bros. panel, Thomas Tull, the exec from Legendary Pictures, whipped a secret out of his ear.
The lights darkened, some vaguely Japanese calligraphy font gave the company titles, some gong-like percussion was heard and...

The Comic-Con 2012 Marvel panel seemed really more like an 'Iron Man 3' panel from the start. It was previously announced that Marvel President Kevin Feige would be bringing some "special guests" to "provide an inside look at the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe."

Despite having "comic" in its title, much of the attention lavished on Comic Con these days has to do with the various movie and TV panels, not comic books. Ironically, it takes the involvement of one of the most admired filmmakers working today to get comics back into the headlines. For the record, that headline is "Quentin Tarantino Will Be Making His Comic Writing Debut By Adapting 'Django Unchained' Into A Five-Part Miniseries For DC Comics."
