Doctor Who won’t officially debut any new episodes until Christmas, but the Doctor himself will be back a few months earlier. Young-adult spinoff Class has officially set an October premiere, Peter Capaldi included, while New York Comic-Con will also host both Doctor Who and its new series.

Doctor Who gave fans plenty of notice that Steven Moffat would be leaving the series in 2017, though the question inevitably turns to when Peter Capaldi himself will regenerate into a new actor. We’ve heard some vague suggestions before, but at least according to Moffat, “I have no reason to suppose that I’m writing out a Doctor.”

It doesn’t appear as if Doctor Who will be dropping by Comic-Con 2016, but ahead of Steven Moffat’s final season, the longtime showrunner seems to be letting it all hang out. We won’t see Doctor Who again until the 2016 Christmas Special, even then without perhaps meeting the next companion to follow Jenna Coleman’s Clara, though he or she has apparently already been cast. Peter Capaldi says he’s already begun working with the franchise’s newest actor, perhaps precipitating a formal announcement soon.

Doctor Who will keep silent for the better part of 2016, airing nothing but a Christmas Special, but undergo major transition in 2017 with the addition of a new companion and Steven Moffat’s retirement.
