‘Allegiant’ Trailer: The End of ‘Divergent’ Begins

by Matt Singer November 13, 2015 @ 12:09 PM
There are only three Divergent books. But there’s going to be four movies. Because when you take a popular series of young-adult novels and turn them into a series of movies, you always split the last one. That’s just the rule. If you don’t, they kick you out of Hollywood.

Filming has officially begun in Prague for the upcoming sequel, which features a few familiar faces and a handful of potentially exciting, new ones.

‘Insurgent’ Trailer: The Divergents Are Out of Control

by Britt Hayes February 10, 2015 @ 7:45 PM
Sure, we just got a new ‘Insurgent’ trailer during the Super Bowl, but who can ever truly get enough of Shailene Woodley kicking ass and fighting Kate Winslet’s sinister bureaucracy? A new ‘Insurgent’ trailer has arrived, giving us more of the Divergent revolution, more action, and more Octavia Spencer looking pretty dang wise and fierce.

The Final ‘Insurgent’ Poster Has Shailene Woodley Going Full Action Hero

by Jacob Hall January 28, 2015 @ 10:05 AM
The latest poster for ‘Insurgent’ continues the trend we’ve seen throughout the all of the film’s marketing: showcase Shailene Woodley and a lot of broken glass and the kids will come. Oh, yeah. And Theo James, too. But c’mon, who really cares about that guy when you have the star of ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ doing her best Chow Yun-Fat impression?

First 'Insurgent' Photo Features the Cast on the Run, Director Returning for 'Allegiant - Part 1'

by Britt Hayes December 5, 2014 @ 5:16 PM
There’s plenty of movement on the ‘Divergent’ franchise front today: we have the first official image from the upcoming sequel, ‘Insurgent,’ featuring Shailene Woodley and her co-stars running away from … something. It could be the evil government, or it could be a dinosaur. Maybe ‘Insurgent’ is doing some cross-promotion with ‘Jurassic World.’ We just don’t know. Additionally, ‘Insurgent’ director Robert Schwentke has signed on to helm the next film in the series. Big day for the ‘—ent’ series.

A couple of weeks ago we reported on a reboot of the 'Underworld' franchise, which delivered its fourth film -- 'Underworld: Awakening' -- in 2012. But it seems that news was only slightly premature as Lakeshore Entertainment is moving ahead with a sequel, not a reboot, and they're bringing back 'Awakening' star Theo James to reprise the role of vampire David for the fifth film.

Final 'Divergent' Sequel 'Allegiant' Will Be Split Into Two Films

by Jacob Hall April 11, 2014 @ 10:40 AM
In a move that should surprise approximately no one, the 'Divergent' film franchise will now be four films instead of three, with 'Allegiant,' the third book in Veronica Roth's best-selling series, now being adapted into two films. Just when you thought young-adult dystopic science-fiction stories were on the way out ...

'Divergent' Review

Summit Entertainment
Springing forth from the same lineage of Katniss Everdeen, far removed from the toxically weak Bella Swan bloodline, ‘Divergent’ heroine Beatrice “Tris” Prior is well worth rooting for, even if her debut film isn’t as compelling as its leading lady. Based on Veronica Roth’s best-selling YA trilogy, Neil Burger’s film is cripplingly faithful to its source material, and although he and screenwriters Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor have plenty of rich material to pull from, the film’s inability to distill it down to its most essential bits makes for a strangely bloated and often flatlining final product.
Yet, for its dragging run time – nearly two and a half hours – and its repetitive nature, ‘Divergent’ should both thrill fans and (hopefully) excite newcomers who will leave the theater wanting to know where its open ending travels next.

'Divergent' Winter Olympics Trailer: Shailene Woodley's on the Hero's Path

by Damon Houx February 19, 2014 @ 9:38 PM
As young-adult films often focus on contests and matters of life and death turned into sporting events, it's fitting that ‘Divergent' -- which stars Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, and future Kyle Reese, Jai Courtney -- released an extended Winter Olympics trailer.
