‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Movie Toys: Splinter, Shredder and More in Plastic
For as long as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have existed, there have been Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys. With the new movie on the horizon, Playmates revealed a first look at their new line of toys, which include the usual suspects: the turtles themselves, the scrappy reporter April O'Neil, the wise Splinter and the evil Shredder. Interestingly, the toy versions of Splinter and Shredder offer us our best look yet at the new incarnations of these characters.
We got our first clear look at Shredder earlier today, and all we could talk about was what a huge departure he was from his usual look. However, the toy version actually feels more like a classical take on the character, falling somewhere between the old design and the new one. This could mean that actor William Fichtner will have more than one super samurai suit, but it's just as likely that this is a toy-only thing.
There aren't too many surprises with the Splinter figure, which pretty much looks like how he's always been: a rat, standing upright and clad in the robes of a martial arts master.
Including Splinter and Shredder, the action figures in the new toy line vary from 4.4 to 11 inches, depending on the collection, and include the depicted turtles (Raphael, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Donatello) and April O'Neil (based on Megan Fox), as well as a foot soldier. In addition, kids and collectors will be offered the Turtle Assault Van and Ninja Combat Gear collections -- either Leonardo with katana sword, bandana and two hand guards; Michelangelo with Nunchuck, bandana and two hand guards; Raphael with two Sais and bandana; or Donatello with Bo Staff and bandana.
The toys don't have a release date yet, but we imagine they'll hit shelves soon. After all, they have to promote a major motion picture, which debuts on August 8.
