Ryan Reynolds Reveals First Look at ‘Deadpool 2’s Domino
When Deadpool returns to theater screens next year, he’s going to have a major upgrade in supporting casts. In his first film, the lack of co-starring mutants was basically a recurring gag; Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With a Mouth shared screentime with Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and that was basically it. But Deadpool 2 will up the X-Men star power in a major way. ’Pool will meet Cable, played by Josh Brolin, as well as Domino, played by Zazie Beetz. And today on Twitter, Reynolds tweeted out the first look at Beetz’s version of the character:
Domino was co-created by the same guys who first introduced Deadpool to the pages of X-Men comics; writer Fabian Nicieza and artist Rob Liefeld. (Cable was created by Liefeld with writer Louise Simonson.) A longtime fixture of X-Men spinoffs and side series like X-Force, Cable, and Cable and Deadpool’s teamup book, she has the mutant power to alter luck; good luck for her, bad luck for her opponents in battle. Making things even more confusing, when she was first introduced to comics, a shapechanging mutant named Copycat had actually assumed Domino’s identity. In the comics, Copycat is the codename of Vanessa Carlysle, Morena Baccarin’s character from the Deadpool movies. Whether any of this stuff is referenced or recreated in someway onscreen remains to be seen.
As for Beetz’s look as Domino, it’s definitely reminiscent of the comic-book version, with some significant differences, primarily the fact that that famous colored patch over her left eye is here colored white, instead of black. In the comic, Domino has extremely pale white skin with the black spot. Beetz’s style is reversed. Either way, she does not look like someone toe mess with, as she has turned Deadpool into a bearskin rug. Ouch. Deadpool 2 opens on June 1, 2018.
