Doctor Who kept his eyes on the future with Comic Con 2015's Season 9 trailer and premiere date, but the Time Lord isn’t above looking to the past, and occasionally through  3D glasses. Before Season 9, the BBC will take Doctor Who Season 8's final two installments to theaters, along with an exclusive short previewing The Doctor’s ninth run.

BBC Worldwide North America has again partnered with Fathom Events to bring Doctor Who to the big screen for a two-night theatrical event, presenting the two-part Series 8 finale “Dark Water / Death in Heaven” in RealD 3D and Dolby Atmos sound on September 15 and 16. The event will also feature Season 9 premiere prequel “The Doctor’s Meditation,” as well as an interview with stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman, hosted by Wil Wheaton.

Tickets for the event can be purchased online starting Friday, July 31 at Fathom’s website, as well as participating theater box offices. The ninth season, meanwhile, will formally premiere worldwide on September 19.

Premiering with two-part installment “The Magician’s Apprentice” and “The Witch’s Familiar,” Doctor Who Season 9 will feature among its guest stars Game of Thrones favorite Maisie Williams, Rufas Hound, Tom Stourton, Ariyon Bakare, Simon Lipkin, Ian Conningham, Murray McArthur, Barnaby Kay, John Voce, Struan Rodger, Jemma Redgrave, Kelly Hunter, Clare Higgins, Jaye Griffiths, Daniel Hoffmann-Gill, Jami Reid-Quarrell, Aaron Neil, India Ria Amarteifio, Joey Price, Dasharn Anderson, Harki Bhambra, Demi Papaminas, and a returning Michelle Gomez.
