Peter Capaldi Still Doesn’t Know if He’s Leaving ‘Doctor Who’ After Season 10
Peter Capaldi has stuck with Doctor Who for upwards of two seasons, but with Steven Moffat announced to leave after Season 10 next year, the question remains if the Twelfth Doctor goes with him. As of the 2016 Christmas special, even Capaldi admits he hasn’t yet made a decision whether to remain beyond the tenth season.
Capaldi offered the update to Wales Online, noting that he’d enjoy watching the December 25 special “The Return of Doctor Mysterio,” but hadn’t necessarily determined if Season 10 would be his last. In fact – he’s actively avoiding the question:
I’ve been asked to stay on and I haven’t made my mind up about that yet, mainly because I don’t want to have to make that decision. I’m trying to avoid it! […]
Doctor Who does take a lot of time, but it’s a wonderful use of it … It’s special. I’m lucky enough to be in touch with other Doctors, and we all agree how extraordinary it is to be in this position. To decide to leave is a tough decision for everybody. [It was] very tough for Steven, so I’m just putting it off for as long as possible.
Elsewhere, in addition to Michelle Gomez’s likely return as Missy and Matt Lucas’ return as Nardole, Season 10 will also feature Jekyll & Hyde star Stephanie Hyam in a minor role. Pearl Mackie will also joined in the role of new companion Bill, while Peter Capaldi has suggested Jenna Coleman’s Clara might return in some form.
Capaldi previously admitted having only officially signed through the coming tenth season, despite being asked to return after Steven Moffat’s last season in spring 2017. Following Moffat’s exit, Chris Chibnall will sub in as the new head writer and executive producer, to begin after Season 10.
We’ll likely hear Capaldi’s decision in 2017, but check out “The Return of Doctor Mysterio” in sneak peeks below, and stay tuned.
