Extra Credit: Five Female Action Heroes to Stream After ‘Tomb Raider’

While I have not yet had the pleasure of taking in the new Tomb Raider remake, this writer has received inside word that Lara Croft barely raids any tombs in the film. I have it on good authority that she barely raids one tomb, a far cry from the wanton tomb-raiding Angelina Jolie iteration. But all the same, it’s nice to have another big-budget studio tentpole headlined by a woman, as Alicia Vikander takes up the mantle of She Who Raids the Tombs.
Lara Croft is just one in a long line of hardy women who have risked life and limb in yarns of adventure, starting back in the earliest years of cinema history and continuing with Imperator Furiosa in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. This week, the column turns its attention towards the distaff baddest-asses of the silver screen, from a Japanese killing machine out for blood to one supremely ticked-off go-go dancer with a heaving firearm where her left leg should be.
