‘Homeland’ Season 6 Will Follow the Next Presidential Election
It’s been some time since Showtime’s Homeland left us on a vague Season 5 end, and promised to return to the United States in Season 6. Fall 2016 itself may be a charged time for the country, and it seems Carrie Mathison will get right back in the middle, as Season 6 eyes the vulnerable time between our elected and outgoing President.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly from Homeland’s FYC Emmy panel, showrunner Alex Gansa said of the primarily New York-set season that Homeland wouldn’t focus on any real-life election results, but rather the tender time just after an election takes place:
The whole season takes place between Election Day in November and the inauguration of a new president in January, during this strange and interregnum where a very fragile transfer of power takes place between the outgoing president and the incoming president-elect.
So while animosity toward an elected president will likely feel like a topical issue, the focus itself will instead emphasize the transition:
There is this strange period in America where there are 72 days when it’s not exactly clear who’s in charge, and there is a new president that needs to be educated on what it means to be president. That is a very complex transfer of power filled with all kinds of anxiety and different competing interests — How do I get the ear of the new president? How does the new president elect deal with the president that’s going out? — and it’s a dangerous time in our democracy.
The fifth season took place primarily in Berlin, after Season 4 similarly relocated itself to Islamabad, but still no word if a certain cast member will make a miraculous recovery just yet. You can check out the first teaser below, and stay tuned for the latest on Homeland Season 6.
