Regardless of what our dueling critics say, the Joss Whedon-directed 'Avengers' was in the top two best movies of the summer (if it wasn't for 'The Dark Knight Rises,' we could definitively call it the best). Now, as if over night, being a geek is suddenly "cool" and tons of non-comic-book-reading fans are pretending that they were hip to the subculture before everyone else.

Well, Whedon practically began the geek fad way before it actually became mainstream. Take 'Buffy' and 'Angel' as examples. These shows had amassed huge cult followings at the time of their airing, and Whedon paid homage to his earlier works in 'The Avengers.' See if you can spot it...

... Okay, time's up! It's the Hulk. Unofficially, of course, Whedon definitely used Angel himself as inspiration for the latest visual interpretation of The Hulk. Both of these characters are practically the same -- both have hideous monsters lurking inside of them ready to burst out, and both have Crow's Feet from making the "angry face" all the time.
