Ian McShane is on quite a roll these days. From his appearance on the last season of Game of Thrones, to his minor but o less enigmatic character in the John Wick movies, to the ever-possible Deadwood revival, to playing a literal deity in Starz’s American Gods, McShane has been getting all the good stuff lately. And now we can add to that list Neil Marshall’s Hellboy reboot.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ian “Sure, Why Not?” McShane has joined the movie as Hellboy’s adoptive father, Professor Trevor Broom. Broom is part of Hellboy’s origin story: he found him as a cute baby demon in the ruins of a church after he and the U.S. army were alerted that something supernatural would take place there in midwinter. Broom was a paranormal advisor to the U.S. army during World War II — there was this whole thing about Hitler using the occult to try to win the war — and from that he formed the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D.), of which Hellboy is eventually an employee.

The new Hellboy movie, subtitled Rise of the Blood Queen, will focus on the Nimue storyline from the comics, in which a powerful witch is brought back to life and almost ends the world. So, the usual stuff.
