Yo Joe: Redemption.

I can’t say I was dying to see a spinoff movie all about Snake Eyes, the G.I. Joe ninja character who talks softly (or not at all) and carries a big katana sword. But this got my attention (via The Hollywood Reporter): The film is close to signing Iko Uwais, the kinetic star of The Raid and The Raid 2 currently starring in the new Netflix series Wu Assassins, to play a key role in the film opposite Henry Golding as the title character.

More details from THR:

Uwais will play Hard Master, Snake Eyes’ tough as nails teacher who is also a skilled swordmaster.... Andre Koji is already set to play Storm Shadow, a ninja who is both Snake Eyes’ blood bother and archenemy.

Snake Eyes is being directed by Robert Schwentke from a script by Evan Spiliotopoulos, supposedly about the hero “seeking revenge for his father’s death by joining a ninja clan and in the process finding acceptance.”

Look, the only reason to see a movie called Snake Eyes if it doesn’t star Nicolas Cage as an unhinged Atlantic City cop is for wild martial arts action setpieces. And if that’s what you’re doing, there are few people better than Iko Uwais right now. So you have my attention, Snake Eyes. Now can you grab my interest?
