James Gunn Shares All of the Hilarious Fake Nathan Fillion Posters Cut From ‘Guardians Vol. 2’
One of my favorite things is those fake “honest” photoshopped movie posters of all the nominees that some out when Oscar season rolls around. Last year Martin Scorsese’s Silence turned into Godfellas, Arrival became War of the Words, and Hell or High Water was retitled Buying a House is Hard. For Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, James Gunn thought he’d (as always) have some fun with Easter eggs, and made some fake movie posters of his own for Nathan Fillion’s Simon Williams cameo.
Unfortunately, the cameo scene outside a movie theaters which would have shown all these posters was cut from the film for the sake of keeping the pace going, but yesterday Gunn shared all of the posters on his Facebook page, to the delight of fans who immediately began to piece together which movies he was referencing in each.
We’ve already seen the Steve Jobs biopic parody poster, but they also made a Toxic Avenger parody, an Inception poster, and a poster modeled after the one for Daniel Radcliffe’s Horns. You can tell the props department for Guardians had a ton of fun designing these behind the scenes, and it’s honestly kind of a shame that this scene had to be done away with. It’s good that Gunn knows when to kill a darling, but I’m glad we get to see these posters anyway. Can you figure out what other movies he’s referencing in the gallery above?
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now playing.
