Many fans (including us) were very disappointed when Edgar Wright dropped out of Marvel’s Ant-Man. But, the silver lining is that Wright was suddenly available to write and direct a new, original film. That new film is Baby Driver, the upcoming musical-action film starring Ansel Elgort and Lily James. Michael Douglas was at one point also attached to the film, but has now been replaced Jamie Foxx, who is in talks to join the upcoming project.

Douglas had been attached to work with Wright after their pairing on Ant-Man fell apart, but now Foxx is lined up to play the film’s crime boss who hires a young, mute getaway driver to work for him. The driver, who is mute and constantly listens to a curated personal soundtrack to drown out the ringing in his ears, must “face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.”

As is the case with many of Wright’s films, Baby Driver will be meticulously shot so the action syncs to the tempo and beat of the music. For example, if he’s cornered, the soundtrack could be “Nowhere to Run” by Martha Reeves. Sony has described the film as the “ultimate rock-and-roll car chase film”.

It all sounds pretty great (as any new Edgar Wright film would), but the unfortunate part is that you’ll have to wait until 2017. Filming on Baby Driver is set to begin later this year with a March 17, 2017 release date planned.
