‘Justice League’ Runtime Revealed – And It’s Really Surprising
Man of Steel was 143 minutes long. Batman v Superman was 151 minutes. Suicide Squad clocked in at a svelte 123 minutes. And Wonder Woman ran 141 minutes. Surely Justice League, the movie that combines most of these characters (minus the Skwad), would be even longer than the previous DC Extended Universe epics.
No, it would apparently not. According to numerous reports and sources, the final Justice League runtime is ... just 119 minutes. At under two hours, that makes it the shortest film in the entire DCEU. That is a surprise given the large cast, including Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, and more. The film will have to bring together the Justice League and have them face off with a threat from outer space. Plus, there’s the whole matter of Superman being dead after Batman v Superman, and whether or not the movie brings him back to life or leaves him in his grave. Doing all of that in under two hours sounds ... crowded.
Some fans were immediately displeased with the news; one blogger reported receiving harassment and death threats for reporting the Justice League runtime. The worst part of that was these fans were upset that he reported the runtime was 121 minutes, when in fact it’s actually under two hours. They must be even more mad now.
Mad or not, 119 is a surprising number. Even the superhero movies Joss Whedon (who took over the film from director Zack Snyder during post-production) made for Marvel were much longer; both of his Avengers were about 140 minutes. And Thor: Ragnarok is longer than Justice League too; it’s about 130 minutes.
But hey: People are always complaining blockbuster movies these days are too long. You won’t have to worry about that with Justice League, which opens in theaters on November 17, 2017.
