David Cronenberg’s output as of late has been fairly divisive, but that isn't keeping us from feeling supremely excited for Maps to the Stars, the director's latest film in which he appropriately brings his twisted sensibilities to the land of Hollywood. Today brings the red band trailer for the film, complete with a ringing endorsement from director John Waters, who proclaims to love the film more than his own mustache — which means a whole lot.

The previous green band trailers for Maps to the Stars were a little tame, while still teasing the madness at the heart of Cronenberg's new film. The red band trailer ramps things up a bit, hinting at moments both violent and exceptionally strange — like what is that kid going to do with that gun, exactly? And what the heck is going on with Robert Pattinson’s hair and makeup in that one scene?

Maps to the Stars revolves around the Weiss family: Stafford Weiss (John Cusack), a self-help therapist and TV personality; his wife Cristina (Olivia Williams), who manages their son, a 13-year-old troubled child star; and their daughter Agatha (Mia Wasikowska), fresh out of the psych ward and covered with mysterious burns. Agatha befriends a limo driver (Pattinson), who works for Havana Segrand (Julianne Moore), an actress on the brink of a total breakdown, desperate to reinvent herself.

That covers a lot of Hollywood territory, and in typical Cronenberg fashion, things are apt to get downright bizarre and unsettling, with a little morbid humor thrown in for good measure. Maps to the Stars hits theaters and VOD on February 27.
