NBA 2K14 Video: Motion Basketball
Basketball, like many others, is an emotional sport. However, basketball is one of the few sports in which you can see an entire player's face to learn exactly how he's feeling at any given moment in a game. For years, the folks at 2K Sports have been working on bringing that kind of realism to video games. With this year's next-gen version of NBA 2K14, the developers may have finally done it.
In the above developer diary, NBA 2K's team talks us through bringing the sport to life like we've never seen it before. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will offer new opportunities to bring more to the table than just incredibly immersive gameplay. Using advanced motion-capture techniques, 2K was able to develop a range of emotions for the virtual versions of the NBA elite to portray throughout a given game. Get a crucial dunk? LeBron may display his tribal shout. Focused in on defense? You'll be able to see the concentration on Kobe's face.
More than that, there's a whole new dynamic brought to life by the Eco-Motion engine which allows 2K to create better, more true-to-life footwork and jersey reaction. We'd tell you all about it, but the visuals tend to speak for themselves on occasions such as this.
NBA 2K14 launches on the PlayStation 4 on Nov. 15 and Xbox One on Nov. 22.
