AMC ‘Preacher’ Adds Two More Casts Members for Seth Rogen Series
The cast of AMC and Seth Rogen’s Preacher series is still growing — following the recent confirmation of Dominic Cooper’s casting in the lead role of Jesse Custer, two more names have joined the cast as supporting characters, and judging by their descriptions, at least one of them isn’t long for the world of this series.
According to Deadline, The Killing star Jamie Anne Allman and Rectify’s Derek Wilson have joined the cast in the roles of Betsy and Donny Schenck. Betsy is described as “a meek wife who appears to suffer beatings by the hand of her husband, Donny,” while Donny is a “Civil War re-enactor and abusive thug who gets into altercations with Jesse Custer but nevertheless shows up to church on Sundays.” It’s okay, guys, Donny goes to church.
Those descriptions don’t make it sound like Betsy and Donny will be around for long, but the report notes that Allman and Wilson’s characters are recurring, so they’ll stick it out for a while. They also appear to be new characters written specifically for the series.
Preacher is based on the acclaimed Garth Ennis graphic novel series, which centers on Jesse Custer, a disillusioned preacher who is struck by the force of Genesis (the offspring of an angel and a demon) and granted the voice of God. Jesse teams up with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an alcoholic Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) to find God and get some answers.
The series has also cast Ian Colletti in the role of disfigured teen Arseface and Deadwood star W. Earl Brown as his father, Hugo Root. Seth Rogen and his longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg will direct the pilot, based on a screenplay they wrote with executive producer and showrunner Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad).
