‘R.I.P.D.’ Trailer: ‘Men in Black’ Meets the Afterlife
This 'R.I.P.D.' trailer certainly seems to indicate that the supernatural buddy cop film is a lot like 'Men in Black' with a cranky Jeff Bridges standing in for a cranky Tommy Lee Jones and a wise-ass Ryan Reynolds filling in for a wise-ass Will Smith. Whether that's a good thing or not is up to you. Take a look at this new 'R.I.P.D.' trailer for yourself to decide.
Like 'Men in Black' before it, 'R.I.P.D.' is based on a popular cult comic about two dead cops recruited into the "Rest in Peace Department" to protect our unsuspecting world from an increasingly destructive array of aliens creatures who refuse to move peacefully to outer space the other side.
Truth be told, we weren't much sold on this movie until...Jeff Bridges started in. It's kinda hard to be bored by a movie when Jeff Bridges is doing his best Sam Elliott from 'The Big Lebowski' impression. The gags are fairly familiar (although one inspired bit where living humans see the dead cops as a beautiful woman and an old Chinese man was good), the monsters look like something right out of Rick Baker's 'MIB' shop and the action rather standard but we've certainly seen worse trailers out there (especially considering that Universal repeatedly delayed this movie and it had been given the kiss of death).
So if it is a 'Men in Black' ripoff, at least it looks like it could be a moderately summer action movie, if not a wholly original one.
