First Michael Fassbender and Natalie Portman might star in a movie together, and now Ryan Gosling is teaming up with Christina Hendricks for his directorial debut, 'How to Catch a Monster.' It's like Hollywood is really listening to us!

It's almost too pretty to be true. According to Variety, Ryan Gosling (aka Baby Goose) is set to make his directorial debut with the dark fairy tale 'How to Catch a Monster.' Gosling's 'Drive' co-star and 'Mad Men' actress Christina Hendricks will headline the feature, which Gosling also wrote and will produce with his Phantasma Films company.

The film takes place in "the surreal landscape of a vanishing city," where a single mother of two is drawn to a dark fantasy underworld; meanwhile, her teenage son discovers a secret path to an underwater world. It sounds like it has the potential to blend fantasy with reality in interesting and thoughtful ways, perhaps similar to the work of Jean Pierre Jeunet or maybe even earlier Michel Gondry. Let's hope for more Jeunet/Gondry and less Zack Snyder's 'Sucker Punch.'

Gosling is a man of many talents -- actor, producer, musician (check out his fantastic two-man band, Dead Man's Bones), and now writer and director. Watch out, James Franco. His next film is 'The Place Beyond the Pines' with Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes -- a reunion with his 'Blue Valentine' director Derek Cianfrance which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.
