John Wick’s success is largely owed to the directing power of Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, the duo who used their years of experience as stunt coordinators to really amp up the action. The guys have two upcoming action films — John Wick 2 and The Coldest City — but only so much time for both, so Stahelski and Leitch have decided to divide and conquer, with each of them taking on one project instead of two.

The Wrap reports that Leitch has left John Wick 2 to devote his energy to The Coldest City, the upcoming spy thriller based on Antony Johnston’s graphic novel. Charlize Theron is set to star in the film, which takes place post-communism, just before the destruction of the Berlin wall. Theron will play a spy who sets out on a dangerous mission to retrieve a valuable list detailing the names of every espionage agent in Berlin in order to protect their identities after an MI6 agent is killed.

Stahelski will remain on John Wick 2, which begins shooting in November with Keanu Reeves returning to reprise his role as the eponymous protagonist. No plot details have been revealed about the highly anticipated sequel just yet.

Leitch and Stahelski have become increasingly busy since making their feature directing debut last year — the duo are also set to direct Chris Pratt in the Cowboy Ninja Viking adaptation and are working on a new Cinemax TV series with Keanu Reeves called Rain.
