Chief among the excitement for 'Star Wars Rebels' is its ability to plumb the depths of periods mostly unexplored on film, particularly between the time between trilogies wherein the Empire cemented its power. The Imperials will be at their full strength when 'Star Wars Rebels' debuts later this year, and we've got the latest photo of classic Stormtroopers in action under the Inquisitor!

Via Entertainment Weekly, the newest photo from the animated adventure series replacing 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' gives us a better sense of the animation style to come, featuring the iconic Stormtroopers (clones, or no) backing the villainous Inquisitor we've heard so much about. Interestingly, it appears the villain's lightsaber can either fold, or split the ring around its hilt, becoming a kind of hand guard.

Here’s the official ‘Star Wars Rebels’ logline:

‘Star Wars Rebels’ continues the epic tradition of the legendary ‘Star Wars’ saga with all-new exciting, action-packed adventures. It is a dark time in the galaxy, as the evil Galactic Empire tightens its grip of power from world to world. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people.

But there are a select few who are brave enough to stand up against the endless Stormtroopers and TIE fighters of the Empire: the clever and motley crew of the starship “Ghost.” Together, this ragtag group will face threatening new villains, have thrilling adventures, and become heroes.

We’ve already seen concept art of the mentioned Millennium Falcon-esque “Ghost,” but no voice cast has been made official. That said, we previously heard Freddie Prinze Jr., ‘The Butler’ star David Oyelowo, Vanessa Marshall, Taylor Gray and Steven Jay Blum were at least on the short list. Picking up where the now-canceled ‘Clone Wars‘ left off, ‘Star Wars Rebels’ will also feature on the creative side ‘Clone Wars’ supervising director Dave Filoni.

Hopefully we'll soon get a sense of the real voice cast, as well as a look at all the other characters. In the meantime, check out EW's new shot from 'Rebels' below, and tell us what you think of the classic designs in the comments!
