Syfy’s ’12 Monkeys’ Trailer: “Remember, Mr. Cole, Everyone You See Is Already Dead!”
We were admittedly skeptical when Syfy announced it would adapt yet another past sci-fi property for the TV treatment with Terry Gilliam's classic '12 Monkeys,' but the new series trailer has our excitement spreading like a virus. See for yourself as Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt are pushed aside for a more serious time-travel take in Syfy's '12 Monkeys' TV series!
We've been hearing various reports from the TCA press tour that Syfy's adaptation, starring 'Nikita' vet Aaron Stanford, takes a grittier approach to the traditional '12 Monkeys' mythology, remixing and reimagining characters and events in a similar manner to NBC's 'Hannibal.' The basic premise is the same, as James Cole is sent back to stop the outbreak of a deadly virus, but Syfy's adaptation of the 1995 film (itself coined from French director Chris Marker’s 1962 science-fiction short ‘La Jetée') very much charts its own course, and likely owes more with its concept of time-travel to 'Looper.'
Also noted within the trailer was the same song used in the original 'Game of Thrones' season 4 spots, Chelsea Wolfe's "Feral Love," and unless we're mistaken, Brad PItt's character might have been given something of a makeover:
Meanwhile, here's how Syfy describes its '12 Monkeys,' due in January 15:
'12 Monkeys,' starring Aaron Stanford ('Nikita,' 'X-Men: The Last Stand,' 'X2'), Amanda Schull ('Suits,' 'Pretty Little Liars'), Noah Bean ('Nikita,' 'Damages') and Kirk Acevedo ('Fringe'), follows the journey of a time traveler (Stanford) from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race.
'!2 Monkeys' won't have any kind of Comic-Con 2014 presence this year, but check out the Syfy trailer above, and tell us if you'll catch the fever when the new series premieres in January 2015!
