Cinema legend has it that if you say his name three times, Beetlejuice will appear. Given how often the Beetlejuice sequel has been discussed in the press, we should have like, eight more of these movies by now. And although the long-gestating project remains unofficial, Warner Bros. has brought on a new writer to take a crack at writing a screenplay worthy of luring Tim Burton and Michael Keaton back for more spooky fun.
How’s this for awkward timing: just as an entire generation of moviegoers are rediscovering their love for Winona Ryder thanks to Stranger Things, her chances at reappearing in the role that made her famous may be dying on the vine. The last time we checked in on Beetlejuice 2, it was Ryder who thought the sequel might actually be happening. Now it is Michael Keaton, her costar from the original film, who seems determined to put the final nail in the coffin.
Tim Burton has teased the return of ‘Beetlejuice’ for years now, but only over the course of the last year has the director seemed more committed to making the sequel to his 1988 film a reality. Now would probably be the best time, since ‘Beetlejuice’ star Michael Keaton has once again become a household name, picking up a Golden Globe award and an Oscar nomination for his comeback performance in ‘Birdman.’ According to writer Seth Grahame-Smith, Burton isn’t wasting much time, and will likely begin filming ‘Beetlejuice 2’ as soon as later this year.
Sorry, Katy Perry. While the pop singer expressed interest in taking over the role of Lydia in Tim Burton's developing 'Beetlejuice 2,' original actress Winona Ryder might be coming aboard the project to reprise the part instead.
Katy Perry has thrown her hat in multiple rings -- her new single, "Roar," is off the charts, she appeared on 'SNL' a couple times (as both host and musical guest), she voiced Smurfette in 'The Smurfs' movies, and she's been vocal about wanting a role in the proposed 'Blade Runner 2.' Now, with 'Beetlejuice 2' under discussions, she already has her eye on a role.
Apparently if Tim Burton says 'Beetlejuice 2' enough times, it'll actually happen ...
Rumors have long been circling about a potential 'Beetlejuice 2,' most of them coming from the original director, who's been vocal about a sequel. Well, as crazy as it might sound, Burton is actually in talks now to join the project for Warner Bros.
