Vin Diesel. A flaming sword. Gnarly witches and supernatural monsters. Vin Diesel’s insane beard. What more could you ask for in a new film from the star of the Fast and Furious and Riddick franchises? Not much — oh, but then there’s Michael Caine and Elijah Wood and Wildling badass Rose Leslie from Game of Thrones. Okay, so you could ask for more, but the latest trailer for The Last Witch Hunter promises more than enough to satisfy.

Diesel stars in the upcoming fantasy-action-horror flick as an immortal warrior who drifts between the real world and the “dream world” in order to stave off evil witch-monsters. That sounds entertaining enough, but Diesel’s warrior has a singular mission: to kill the recently resurrected queen witch who laid a curse upon him hundreds and hundreds of years ago.

The modern world holds many secrets, but the most astounding secret of all is that witches still live amongst us; vicious supernatural creatures intent on unleashing the Black Death upon the world. Armies of witch hunters battled the unnatural enemy across the globe for centuries, including Kaulder (Vin Diesel), a valiant warrior who managed to slay the all-powerful Queen Witch, decimating her followers in the process. In the moments right before her death, the Queen curses Kaulder with her own immortality, forever separating him from his beloved wife and daughter in the afterlife. Today Kaulder is the only one of his kind remaining, and has spent centuries hunting down rogue witches, all the while yearning for his long-lost loved ones. However, unbeknownst to Kaulder, the Queen Witch is resurrected and seeks revenge on her killer causing an epic battle that will determine the survival of the human race.

Directed by Breck Eisner (The Crazies), The Last Witch Hunter also stars Michael Caine, Elijah Wood and Rose Leslie, and hits theaters on October 23.
