Fans of both 'The Simpsons' and the late Marcia Wallace had known that FOX would pay tribute to the fallen actress this past Sunday, both in re-airing classic Emmy-winning episode "Bart the Lover" and the placement of a credits card in new episode "Four Regrettings and a Funeral." But those aren't the only ways 'The Simpsons' mourned their fallen friend this past Sunday.

Welcomely surprising fans, the opening chalkboard gag of "Four Regrettings and a Funeral" also referenced the late actress, featuring Bart forlornly looking at his usual chalkboard with a message that read, "We'll really miss you Mrs. K." Due to the turnaround involved in 'Simpsons' episodes however, Wallace had actually recorded a year's worth of additional dialogue for her character Mrs. Krabappel, after which the character will be gracefully retired.

Wallace passed on October 26 from complications of her ongoing battle with breast cancer, an end to a career that saw Wallace making guest appearances on ‘Bewitched’ and ‘The Brady Bunch,’ and portraying Carol Kester Bondurant on ‘The Bob Newhart Show.’ Said 'Simpsons' executive producer Al Jean of her death at the time, "I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace. She was beloved by all at 'The Simpsons' and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character."

We've included the chalkboard tribute above, as well as a GIF of the later title card below. (Via Uproxx)
