The Simpsons have some dark days ahead if Harry Shearer follows through on plans to quit, though none so dark as the opening of Sunday’s Season 26 finale. Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty drop by the latest couch gag to gruesomely get everyone killed, because what else would you expect from Rick and Morty?

Airing with Sunday’s finale “Mathlete’s Feat” (don’t ask, we didn’t), the newest Simpsons couch gag sees Rick and Morty crashing the titular family’s living room, and predictably killing everyone in the process, even Maggie. A quick jaunt through an alien organ farm later, and America’s favorite family is … well, still not looking so great.

Managing to kill Flanders as well in their exit, Rick and Morty’s exit leaves Bart sighing:

No more guest animators, man.

Meanwhile, says Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland of the honor:

We are honored and blown away to be a part of The Simpsons. If I could go back in time and tell myself that this would happen, I’d be like ‘No way, Jose!’ I simply can’t believe it. I think we might all be living in some kind of massive computer simulation to be honest. Look up simulation theory. That would explain how this happened.

However your mileage varies with The Simpsons these days, or if Harry Shearer’s likely exit spells inevitable doom for the long-running FOX comedy, there’s no denying how much fun the couch gags remain. Rick and Morty too will premiere its second season on July 26, having broken out as a cult hit early on. See for yourself in the video above!
