Although plans to include the big green guy in Captain America: Civil War were nixed, we recently learned that Mark Ruffalo will next reprise the role of Bruce Banner / Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok. Not only will we see the Asgardian hero team up with one half of our favorite Science Bro team, but we might also get to see another very interesting on-screen pairing — if Ruffalo gets his way.

Thor: Ragnarok doesn’t hit theaters until 2017, so we still have a long way to go before any solid details begin emerging about the third installment in the Thor franchise. But in a new interview with The Huffington Post, Ruffalo teased an intriguing possibility while expressing his excitement to return to the MCU:

I am excited to keep coming back to this role. I see a lot of space for it to grow. I feel like there’s a lot of cool stuff to explore still, especially the relationship between Banner and Hulk. Hopefully, we’ll see the two of them in a scene together. That would be cool!

Okay, sure, there’s no way to literally put the Hulk and Bruce Banner in a room face-to-face, but given that they are the same character, there could be a neat way to let them share the screen — if we were to venture inside the mind of either Bruce Banner or the Hulk, depending on which character is currently in charge, we could see the two of them interacting on a more abstract level. And, as Ruffalo says, that would be cool.

There’s also precedent for such a meeting, as Banner and the Hulk have interacted in the comics via similar psychological scenes, and the pair have actually been physically separated before — so it’s totally feasible.

For now, this seems like wishful thinking on Ruffalo’s part, but he may be onto something…

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
