‘Twin Peaks’ Co-Creator and Showtime Are ‘Looking At’ New Episodes
It’s well-established that any Twin Peaks return will leave us more confused than ever, but fans still hope for new episodes sooner, rather than later. Well, it’s not far from Showtime’s minds, as co-creator Mark Frost says they’re actively considering another return.
Creator and star David Lynch previously suggested that any potential return might take at least four years to get his thoughts (not to mention the cast) together. Lynch’s collaborator Mark Frost gave a slightly more optimistic assessment to IndieWire, noting that the prospect of a fourth season was still a subject of discussion between himself and Showtime:
I haven’t decided yet. I think it’s still an open question and it’s one that we’re looking at and one that I think Showtime is musing as well … It’s something you have to think long and hard about. We’ll make the decision when the time is right. There certainly is no sense of urgency about it.
Well, there’s at least some urgency in a broader sense, given the extensive commitment eighteen episodes of The Return took, and an increasingly scattered cast. We’re sure certain stars would welcome the chance to revisit Twin Peaks once more, as supporting players like David Duchovny still have no idea what actually happened to Cooper in the end.
There’s also the matter of Showtime’s investment, as Twin Peaks drove network subscriptions up, but wasn’t a huge ratings draw from week to week. Stay tuned for the latest, and keep a pot of coffee on in the meantime.
