For those of us who were even more enamored than we thought we’d be by a talking raccoon and a slightly-less-wordy walking tree, Guardians of the Galaxy was an absolute delight. Luckily, all of our favorites are returning for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and we’ll get to see our favorite Vin Diesel-voiced sapling once again, now quite a bit diminished in size from his last appearance. For the first film, Diesel learned how to say his character’s recurring line “I am Groot” in six different languages, and now he says the director of the sequel is making him learn almost three times that many.

In an appearance on The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon, on which he had previously regaled the host and audience members with his polyglot pronunciations, Diesel revealed that director James Gunn is making him learn a ton more ways in which to say “I am Groot” for the upcoming sequel. Diesel had previously appeared on The Late Show before, and the video of him saying his line in the six different languages he knew went viral, so the director got the idea to recreate that again for the movie.

It’s simpler, when dubbing a film for foreign audiences, for studios to just hire multilingual voice actors, but Diesel’s voice is so distinctive and adds so much to his character, it’s a good thing that viewers overseas will get to hear Groot as he’s meant to be heard. One thing we’re not sure about is: if Groot is as small as he is at the end of the first movie, little more than a twig, does this mean his voice will be tiny too? Maybe he’ll get the Alvin and the Chipmunks treatment, but let’s hope not.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.
