Much as we never thought we’d say it, The X-Files has shown us enough of its six-episode revival by all the weekly trailers accompanying Gotham. That said, at least one shadowy, smokey figure has yet to show his face, remedied by the first official key art of FOX’s 2016 revival, even without an official explanation.

FOX released three new key art posters of The X-Files’ January return, innocuous enough, considering the myriad trailers we’ve already seen, though we finally see William B. Davis back in action as the infamous cigarette-smoking man. Of course, we have no idea what might resurrect the character, considering his most recent demise in the FOX drama’s final season, but presumably, an elder appearance suggests a return in the present continuity.

Thus far, FOX’s X-Files return has confirmed the Lone Gunmen, Annabeth Gish, Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis to reprise their roles beside David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, while Community star Joel McHale will play a conservative pundit who tasks Mulder and Scully with investigating a woman claiming to have been abducted (The Americans star Annet Mahendru). Additionally, comedian and superfan Kumail Nanjiani will play a small role, while Flash star Robbie Amell and Six Feet Under alum Lauren Ambrose will play a pair of confident new FBI agents.

On the creative side, writers and producers Chris Carter, Glen Morgan and Jim Wong will return to write and direct, and composer Mark Snow also aboard.

Plenty more details will arise before the official January 24 premiere, but rewatch the X-Files trailers below, and prepare for the truth to return in 2016.
