However shrouded in mystery by its frustratingly short teasers, FOX’s 2016 X-Files revival seems to be jam-packing its six-episode run with past series stars. The latest at least offers some notable history for the franchise, as Annabeth Gish will return to the role of FBI agent Monica Reyes.

TVLine confirmed the character’s return for a solitary episode, though as previously thought, Robert Patrick won’t join Gish by reprising the role of Agent John Doggett. The two had essentially taken top billing for The X-Files’ ninth and final season, as David Duchovny largely left the series behind over contract disputes.

Thus far, FOX’s X-Files return has confirmed the Lone Gunmen, Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis to reprise their roles beside David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, while Community star Joel McHale will play a conservative pundit who tasks Mulder and Scully with investigating a woman claiming to have been abducted (The Americans star Annet Mahendru). Additionally, comedian and superfan Kumail Nanjiani will play a small role, while Flash star Robbie Amell and Six Feet Under alum Lauren Ambrose will play a pair of confident new FBI agents.

On the creative side, writers and producers Chris Carter, Glen Morgan and Jim Wong will return to write and direct, with Frank Spotnitz also eyed to pitch in, and composer Mark Snow also coming aboard.

Plenty more details and will arise in the meantime, but what other past X-Files characters might still return? Will there be time for any actual plot?
