‘Community’ Season 5: ‘Breaking Bad’ Creator Vince Gilligan to Guest?
Just what showrunner shenanigans is 'Community' creator Dan Harmon trying to pull for the upcoming fifth season? Where recently we learned that 'Arrested Development' creator Mitch Hurwitz would return Harmon's favor by appearing as a Greendale student, now 'Breaking Bad' creator and showrunner Vince Gilligan will pop up in season 5 alongside former star Jonathan Banks!
Entertainment Weekly broke word of Gilligan's appearance on the cult NBC comedy, specifying that the 'Breaking Bad' creator would guest in late winter-early spring as "a smooth-talking gold digger who winds up exacerbating a fight between Annie (Alison Brie) and Abed (Danny Pudi)." It isn't known if Gilligan will share any scenes with former 'Breaking Bad' star Jonathan Banks, but considering the actor's 11-episode commitment as Annie's criminology professor Hickey, it certainly seems plausible.
Even more indicative of 'Community''s 'Breaking Bad' affection, actor Giancarlo Esposito appeared in the third and fourth season as Pierce's half-brother Gilbert Lawson, though no plans for Esposito to return in season 5 have been confirmed at this time, particularly given Chevy Chase's own absence from the season.
‘Community’ season 5′s January 2 return will also see Nathan Fillion guest starring as a mysterious janitor, ‘Justified‘ star Walton Goggins guesting as another mysterious man who causes trouble for the Greendale gang, Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim as associates of Dean Pelton, along with returns from Brie Larson, LeVar Burton, John Oliver’s Professor Duncan and comedian Rob Corddry as Jeff’s lawyer-rival Alan Connor. Donald Glover will exit the series after 5 episodes, the justifications of which caused a stir for the actor over Instagram.
We'll keep our ear to the ground for any other famous showrunners to pop up in 'Community' season 5, but what say you? Are you excited to see Vince Gilligan breaking Abed?
