When The CW first announced that 'The Flash' would put Barry Allen in 'Arrow''s Starling City before spinning the scarlet speedster into his own series, we were a bit skeptical. What we've seen of Grant Gustin and the series have been promising to date, and now The CW confirmed 'The Flash' in our future with a fall series order for its 'Arrow' spinoff.

The network just now announced that 'The Flash' will move forward as a series, having originated the character of Barry Allen earlier on in 'Arrow''s second season and electing to film its own spinoff pilot rather than return for the formers 20th episode as originally planned. Given the success of 'Arrow' and promising early word for 'The Flash,' the series pickup had essentially been considered a lock.

Greenlit for 13 episodes, ‘The Flash’ cast in known roles Tom Cavanagh as Harrison Wells and Candice Batton as Iris West, daughter to Jesse L. Martin’s Detective West, along with Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon, better known as DC character Vibe. ‘The Vampire Diaries‘ star Rick Cosnett will portray Central City Police transfer Detective Eddie Thawne, who likely corresponds to ‘Flash’ comic villain and time traveler Eobard Thawne, better known as “Professor Zoom” or “Reverse Flash.”

Additionally, Danielle Panabaker plays Caitlin Snow, a highly intelligent bioengineering expert who lost her fiancé during an explosion at S.T.A.R. Labs and is an incarnation of DC villain Killer Frost. Original ‘Flash’ star John Wesley Shipp will also appear in the ‘Arrow’ spinoff, as well, though producers aren’t divulging the details of his role just yet.

Plenty more renewal information to come, but what say you? Are you excited to see 'The Flash' picked up for fall 2014? How do you think it will interact with the 'Arrow'-verse in season 3?
