And just like that, Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' is back on top. Where last night's game-changing installment "Turn, Turn, Turn" incorporated the events of 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' in an action-packed hour that saw the Clairvoyant outed and S.H.I.E.L.D. in shambles, another movie heavy-hitter signed on for a climactic appearance. Fresh off her 'Winter Soldier' role, 'How I Met Your Mother' star Cobie Smulders will return as Agent Maria Hill in an upcoming 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' installment, and we've got your first look.

As first reported by TVLine and formerly announced by Marvel, Smulders will reprise her role in April 29 installment "Nothing Personal," just two weeks before Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson, resurfaces in the May 13 finale. Smulders first appeared in the 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' pilot, though the events of 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' -- SPOILER ALERT! -- last saw Hill applying for a job at Stark Industries, following the breakdown of S.H.I.E.L.D. to Hydra.

Said Executive Producer Jeffrey Bell of her character's upcoming involvement:

She’s always thought the world of [Coulson]. They have a really strong bond between the two of them and they both very much believed and believe in this organization and in their relationship with Nick Fury, [but] as a result of things that happen in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' they come out of that experience with two different conclusions. So that results in tension.

"And we also have the fact that Coulson now knows that S.H.I.E.L.D. lied to him about T.A.H.I.T.I., and she was at the center of it [and also] a trusted friend," continued Jeph Loeb, also an executive producer. "I think that’s also a great place to generate conflict."

Apart from Smulders and Jackson, upcoming weeks for ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ will also see ‘Heroes‘ star Adrian Pasdar appear as ‘Hulkantagonist Glenn Talbot, along with Patton Oswalt as comic character Eric Koenig. Whedonverse vet Amy Acker will also put in an appearance as Coulson's oft-mentioned cellist Audrey, who is threatened by Marvel villain Blackout, portrayed by ‘Twilight‘ franchise star Patrick Brennan.

Excitement for Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' is at an all-time high (despite what last night's ratings would tell you), but what say you? Is Marvel's 'Avengers'-adjacent TV series building toward a strong S.H.I.E.L.D.-centric endgame with Cobie Smulders and Samuel L. Jackson, despite the weekend's 'Cap' cataclysm? Where do you think we'll find Maria Hill, or the team itself by the season's end? Check out your first look at Maria Hill's return above and a preview for next Tuesday's "Providence" below, and give us your predictions in the comments!
