Fans of Joss Whedon's work looking forward to ABC and Marvel's forthcoming 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' TV series were naturally curious to hear if any Whedonverse alums would make it into the show, even if Whedon only acted as executive producer going forward. Ask, and ye shall receive! Joss Whedon's forthcoming 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' TV series hasn't yet passed the pilot stage, but producers have finally answered fan wishes for past Whedon alum. TVLine has confirmed that 'Angel' staple J. August Richards (Charles Gunn) has landed a shadowy, secret role in the series. Might a new superhero be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Marvel’s ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ TV series features a cast that includes Clark Gregg’s resurrected Agent Phil Coulson, as well as ‘ER’ vet Ming-Na, Chloe Bennet, Brett Dalton, Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker as the other agents of the team. Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson previously stated that he expected to be involved in some small capacity, while ‘How I Met Your Mother‘ and ‘The Avengers‘ star Cobie Smulders remains open to the possibility as well.
