South Park has put Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman through the wringer for almost 20 years of pop culture punishment, but did you know the show originated as one of the world’s first viral videos? Or that the first official episode took three months to animate by hand? Oh my god, we killed the 22nd episode of ‘You Think You Know TV?,’ straight from the bastards at South Park!

Many well know the South Park production process has since improved, now unfolding with computer animation over as little as six days, time enough for episodes to comment on topical events only days before. Only in 2013 did Matt Stone and Trey Parker fail to meet deadline, as a power outage forced them to push the third “Goth Kids” episode an additional week.

‘You Think You Know TV?’ is a ScreenCrush original series that dives deep into the worlds of your favorite TV series and freeze frames a few tidbits you might not have known, as with our other installments for LOST, Seinfeld, Batman: The Animated Series, House of Cards, Power Rangers, Family Guy, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Breaking Bad (x2!), True Detective, Empire, The Simpsons, Hannibal, Star Wars Rebels, Better Call Saul, The X-Files, The Flash, Arrow, Mad Men, The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. Our companion series ‘You Think You Know Movies?’ has already tackled everything from Straight Outta Compton to Pulp Fiction, but we’re heading on up to South Park, and why not? I’m sorry, I thought this was America. I THOUGHT THIS WAS AMERICA.
