Man of Steel
Many of us come to Comic-Con ready to talk nerdy about obscure characters that have only appeared in an out-of-continuity one-shot. There is, however, an understood love we have for the most basic, universal characters. To some, Superman, is comic books. And it's time to bring him back to comic book movies.
If there's one thing movie fans have seen over the years, it's that Superman is a tough nut to crack when it comes to making him work on film. Can the combined efforts of director Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan deliver what 'Superman Returns' failed to deliver? Can 'Man of Steel' reinvent Superman for modern audiences? That's the question. Oh, and here's the film's first official poster.
The Comic-Con 2012 Warner Bros. panel on Saturday in Hall H is one of the biggest gatherings we've seen so far here in San Diego. Yeah, 'Resident Evil' and Disney pretty much blew us away, but Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures brought together three top dogs to Comic-Con's largest space -- 'Pacific Rim,' 'Man of Steel' and 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.'
We hope you've got your nerdy overnight bags packed and ready to go because Comic-Con 2012 is fast approaching. We've given you the full rundown on TV panels, but what about all those amazing movie panels? Read on for a full schedule of movie panels and what to expect from the big studios this year.
The full schedule for Comic Con 2012 continues to trickle out and the day's events for Saturday, July 14th have been revealed.
And you thought Friday was busy! This must be one of the most intense and jam-packed days we've ever seen...and we're just looking at the movie and TV events! If you're attending this year and want to check out the film, television and comic panels, you better have priorities. This is an embarassment of geeky riches.
DC hasn't had as much luck with movies outsider of Christopher Nolan's Batman movies of late, so it's no surprise that for 'Man of Steel' they've tried to make it as Nolan-y as possible. The 'Dark Knight Rises' director is not only responsible for 'Steel's story and is its producer, his Batman composer Hans Zimmer is now attached to score the film.
When re-imagining the Man of Steel, there are very few changes you can make … unless you are prepared to alienate a passionate fan base. The suit has to be blue. The caps and boots must be red. Superman needs to punch someone every once in a while. (Are you listening, Bryan Singer?) And the logo shield … well, that allows for some wiggle room.
Though the film isn't due out until June 14, 2013, that doesn't mean we won't get a steady stream of promotional material for Zack Snyder's 'Man of Steel' until it comes out. It's only fair: they've been shooting since August of 2011 and, with shooting scheduled to finish in February, they should be in post-production now. It's been quiet on the 'Man of Steel' front but now we have a new image from the film - a banner showing off the new Superman's shield.
