Sunday night will see the debut of WGN America's first original scripted drama in the the witchy period piece 'Salem,' and while yesterday brought the first full trailer, and tomorrow we'll take you straight to the set, there's exciting news today. 'Avatar' and 'Terra Nova' star Stephen Lang has officially joined the cast in a recurring role, but is he friend or foe?

For those unfamiliar with the new period horror piece premiering on WGN America this Sunday at 10:00 P.M., 'Salem' stars Shane West (‘Nikita‘) as native son John Alden and Janet Montgomery (‘Made in Jersey’) as Mary Sibley, following the volatile world of 17th century Massachusetts as it explores the supernatural truth behind the town’s infamous witch trials.

Via Deadline, Lang will take the role of Increase Mather, an "old-line, hard-core Puritan who led the way across the ocean to the Promised Land" during the late 1600s. The character is described as the most intellectually, spiritually and politically influential man in the country, as well as the most feared.

Created by ‘24‘ and ‘Star Trek‘ producer Brannon Braga, WGN America’s ‘Salem’ also stars the likes of ‘Arrow‘ vet Seth Gabel as town preacher Cotton Mather, fellow ‘Nikita’ alum Xander Berkley as Magistrate Hale, Ashley Madekwe as the mysterious Tituba, Tamzin Merchant as Hale’s daughter Anne, Elise Eberle as Mercy Lewis, and ‘Mob City‘ star Iddo Goldberg’ as Isaac Walton.

We'll have an in-depth look at the new series before its Sunday premiere, but in the meantime, what say you? Is 'Salem' worth a visit, especially now that the menace of 'Avatar''s Stephen Lang will pop up before long? Watch the full trailer below, and give us your thoughts in the comments!
