Man, I can’t wait to see Ad AstraI’m not really sure what it’s about specifically? Clearly it’s a science-fiction movie; clearly Brad Pitt plays an astronaut who goes into space. Clearly his dad is missing and maybe Pitt goes looking for him. Beyond that? Who knows! And I love that. Surprise me, Brad Pitt!

Of course, I do know that the film is directed by James Gray, one of my favorite working filmmakers. He’s made The Yards and We Own the Night and Two Lovers and The Immigrant and The Lost City of Z, all of which are varying degrees of good to great to my favorite movies of all time. Here’s the official synopsis for Ad Astra:

Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.

Sounds lofty and weird and awesome. I don’t need to know anything more than that. Ad Astra opens in theaters on September 20, 2019.
