This weekend the first trailer (the teaser trailer) for Len Wiseman's 'Total Recall' is going to premiere. But until that time, we have the teaser for the teaser trailer. The film is an update of Paul Verhoven's classic science fiction film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, but - from the teaser trailer's teaser - it seems all they kept was one prop. Take a look...

The film, which stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Bryan Cranston has come under scrutiny because it seems to have little to do with the original film version, and likely less to do with the original Phillip K. Dick story. Wiseman has said it does and doesn't take place on Mars, so we can only judge what it is from this footage.

And though the original memory implant chair looks familiar, what this is selling in these brief seconds is a sci-fi action movie with very familiar looking future concepts. The cars and some of the action recall 'The Fifth Element' and 'Blade Runner' though that says little.

The studio system has embraced this idea of trailers for trailers, so expect it to be the norm for big budget movies. By reporting them we're part of the problem, but it seems a deeply silly trend. When you're trying to build excitement for a project that the core fanbase is skeptical of, perhaps it helps.
