Arrow Season 4 has a bit of work ahead in recovering from a mixed year, but it is creatively off to a promising start. Punisher: War Zone and fan-favorite director Lexi Alexander has been tapped to helm an Arrow Season 4 episode shooting this summer, so might Starling City come under all-out war? Er…again?

Alexander herself tweeted the news amid discussion of lacking female directors in Hollywood, particularly TV, noting that not even Marvel’s Agent Carter had secured a woman director in its initial eight-episode run. Somewhat unclear is exactly which Arrow episode Alexander will direct, though the August schedule likely puts the hour somewhat early in the run.

In addition to her work directing the notably better-received Punisher film, Alexander has also proven a fan-favorite suggestion for such high-profile superhero projects as the upcoming Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel films, though in the former’s case at least, has waned on the idea. Surely a boon to Arrow’s renowned stunt team, Alexander is also a former World Karate and Kickboxing Champion.

Thus far, few other details of Arrow Season 4 have emerged just yet, though the fourth year is expected to creatively revamp the series after Season 3 finale “My Name is Oliver Queen” saw its titular hero retiring the vigilante lifestyle, at least as we’ve seen it. In addition to a focus on DC villains H.I.V.E. and Damien Darhk, Season 4 may also feature flashbacks amid Green Lantern’s hometown of Coast City, while creatively current Co-EP Wendy Mericle has been elevated to co-showrunner alongside Marc Guggenheim.

Arrow Season 4 has something of an uphill battle after its most recent run, but might intriguing choices like Lexi Alexander’s direction right the ship? What other moves might The CW make in preparing the Emerald Archer’s next target?
