Here's the funny thing about the superhero movie business: first looks at new characters often come from promotional materials and toys than official photos. The latest accidental first look comes from 'Avengers 2' and it's our first proper glimpse of The Vision, the android superhero played by Paul Bettany in the upcoming film. Don't expect anything too fancy here -- like so many of his comic book movie brethren, his debut appearance comes from a photo of a poster at an international products expo.

As you can see in the image below, The Vision is depicted alongside the rest of the regular Avengers, striking a cool pose and looking exactly how you'd expect a modern day, cinematic reinvention of this classic character to look. The basic design is very much in line with his comic book counterpart, but his color scheme has shifted green and yellow to black and red (although the white cape is a nice touch). It's a respectful interpretation of a genuinely weird character -- it's hard to imagine dyed-in-the-wool geeks or newbies having much of a problem with this look. But then again, we'll have to see him in action before we have a final opinion on the matter.

As you probably know, this role represents something of a promotion for Bettany. The British actor provided the voice of Tony Stark's A.I. assistant J.A.R.V.I.S. in all three 'Iron Man' films and 'The Avengers,' so it makes perfect sense that he'd have his consciousness uploaded into a robot body so he can actually get his hands dirty. In fact, the nature of The Vision's creation has been revealed, but that's getting into spoiler territory. Follow that link at your own peril!

'Avengers 2' recently wrapped filming and will be released on May 1, 2015.
