Oh sure, 'True Blood' is great for that satisfying fix of pulpy dramas and bloodthirsty cliffhangers, but what of those who turn to HBO for the much more hard-hitting drama, absent seasons of 'Game of Thrones' to whisk us off to Westeros?  Indeed, 'Boardwalk Empire' will return to the air no sooner than Sunday, September 14, but is HBO feeling a bit quick on the draw?  The latest teaser reminds us you can't just go half-way.

Viewers were shocked and saddened by the final episode of 'Boardwalk Empire' season 2 "To the Lost," which saw series lead Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt) coming to a violent end at the hands of Nucky Thompson, having outlived the usefulness of the risk he posed to Nucky's empire.  Even without Michael Pitt on the payroll anymore, that brutal act is sure to hang over Nucky for good, as the latest teaser reminds us.

Of course, Jimmy isn't the only figure crumbling to the ground, as Nucky himself seems to fall apart starting with his gun, wedding ring, and ever-present flower.  Has he lost his taste for blood?  Will his marriage to Margaret (Kelly MacDonald) ever recover, considering she signed over to the church land plotted for a crucial road?  Sooner or later, we all fall.

Paz de la Huerta’s Lucy Danziger will no longer be present either, even as her character remains alive. Joining ‘Boardwalk Empire‘s third season are Bobby Cannavale as series regular Bugsy Siegel and Stephen Root in a recurring role.  According to reports, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ season 3 will open some fifteen months after the events of ‘To the Lost,” landing on New Year’s Eve 1922-1923.

What say you?  Does the new 'Boardwalk Empire' teaser have you wet all over with anticipation for the premiere?  Will Nucky go full gangster?  Give us your thoughts in the comments below!
