Angelina Jolie’s latest directorial project puts her both behind and in front of the camera, directing herself along with real-life husband Brad Pitt in By the Sea — a film that casts them as a couple in a disintegrating marriage. The first trailer for the upcoming film has arrived, and it definitely looks like a different kind of visceral drama for Jolie, who has primarily stuck with dramatic films based on harrowing true life stories.

By the Sea opens with the great Harry Nilsson’s haunting track “Perfect Day,” as we watch Jolie and Pitt’s marriage fall apart. As a friend noted on Twitter today, the film looks like Revolutionary Road in a French villa, and that concept alone is incredibly attractive.

The film also stars Melanie Laurent, Niels Arestrup, Melvil Popaud and Richard Bohringer. Here’s the official description:

By the Sea follows an American writer named Roland (Pitt) and his wife, Vanessa (Jolie Pitt), who arrive in a tranquil and picturesque seaside resort in 1970s France, their marriage in apparent crisis.  As they spend time with fellow travelers, including young newlyweds Lea (Laurent) and François (Poupaud), and village locals Michel (Arestrup) and Patrice (Bohringer), the couple begins to come to terms with unresolved issues in their own lives.

By the Sea will hit theaters during awards season on November 13.
