There have been a number of casting rumors for Ridley Scott's 'The Counselor,' with one having Angelina Jolie joining future husband Brad Pitt in the picture. Jolie has got 'Maleficent' moving into production - which she was trying to schedule around - and now it looks like Angelina is out and Cameron Diaz has landed the part.

This comes from Twitchfilm, and it would likely be a departure from the light (and dark) comedy that has been her stock in trade since 'There's Something About Mary.' Of course, she's tried serious before in Martin Scorsese's 'Gangs of New York' or Oliver Stone's 'Any Given Sunday,' but those roles have not been as memorable as - say - her recent turn in 'Bad Teacher.'

In 'The Counselor' she would be playing against Pitt, Javier Bardem and Michael Fassbender, and this would be Scott's second film in a row with Fassbender - who is one of the leads in this summer's 'Prometheus.' And from what we hear, Scott is gearing up to shoot as soon as possible. Scott used to take years between projects, but ever since 2000 (and the success of 'Gladiator') the man has turned into a workhorse churning out a new picture every year or two.
