If Marvel's 'Daredevil' series is setting the template for the kind of casting we'll see in all of their upcoming shows, color us excited. The latest addition to the cast is Rosario Dawson, who joined the 13-episode series in a mystery role. The details are scarce at the moment, but it's tough to recall a movie that wasn't actively boosted by her presence, so this could only be a good thing.

But who will Dawson be playing in the series? Before you immediately assume she's portraying Elektra (Daredevil's occasional lover and a badass assassin), Marvel dropped these scant details:

Rosario Dawson will play a dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell’s Kitchen brings Matt Murdock unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city.

Added Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb, "Her role in the series is absolutely critical to Matt Murdock’s journey to become the hero we know as Daredevil."

That certainly doesn't sound like any characters we know of -- but who knows? It's awfully vague wording. She could be playing an established Marvel comics character, but it's just as likely that she's playing a character invented for the series. In any case, the comic version of Daredevil/Matt Murdock has a rough history with the ladies (they tend to end up dead or forever changed), so whatever Dawson's role turns out to be, we expect her to get put through the wringer.

Dawson joins Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio as the Kingpin, making this one of the most interesting casts yet assembled for a Marvel production. 'Daredevil' still doesn't have an official air date, but we expect it will arrive on Netflix in early 2015.
