Early teases of 'Doctor Who''s upcoming eighth season, the first to feature Peter Capaldi in the role of our new Time Lord have largely focused on a crashing TARDIS and familiar voices, without any actual footage. Now, our first real look at season 8 premiere "Deep Breath" has arrived with a brand-new photo, and more teases of the episodes to come!

Courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, the first photo from the premiere sees Capaldi eschewing those fancy duds the BBC made such a big deal about revealing, but with good reason. As it is, the Doctor and Clara will spend the August 23 premiere in Victorian England, hanging with Paternoster Gang Strax (Dan Starkey), Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh) and Jenny Flint (Catrin Stewart).

Says showrunner Steven Moffat of the "dynamic" hour introducing the new relationship between Clara and the 12th Doctor:

It’s a big introduction—he’s the new Doctor. There’s no point pretending that it’s not the most interesting, dynamic thing that you’ve got to sell in that first episode. It’s going to be about ‘What’s he like? How’s he different?’ I suppose it feels a bit like a character piece, but there’s plenty of action and nonsense and jeopardy, as there ever is in Doctor Who.

That's not all of course, as the latest to join the season 8 cast is none other than British comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar, playing yet another unspecified role. At least Moffat offered "I’m completely thrilled that Sanjeev Bhaskar is coming to the aid of the Doctor. The danger is never deadlier than in a finale episode, and the Time Lord is going to need all the help he can get!

Elsewhere, we've heard at least a few rumblings that Matt Smith could make a special appearance in the premiere, though producers are keeping tight-lipped. Samuel Anderson will guest as mysterious new companion Danny Pink, while Keeley Hawes will portray the villainous Ms. Delphox, in episode written by ‘Sherlock”s Steve Thompson and directed by Douglass Mackinnon. Ben Miller will portray yet another villain, Hermione Norris has also been given a mysterious role, and Green Wing' actress Michelle Gomez will play "The Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere."

We won't be seeing 'Doctor Who' land at Comic-Con 2014, but the world tour with stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna-Louise Coleman should more than prepare us for the August 23 premiere. While we wait, check out the latest 'Doctor Who' season 8 photo below, and tell us in the comments what you want to see in the newest episodes!
