Emma Stone Wins Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical at the 2017 Golden Globes
Here’s to the ones who dream, and here’s to the ones who go on to win Golden Globes! Emma Stone took home the award for Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical for her role as the aspiring actress Mia in La La Land.
It’s no surprise the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was wooed by Damien Chazelle’s romance musical, so much so that Chazelle won Best Director and Best Screenplay, and Ryan Gosling won Best Actor in a Comedy. (It also doesn’t hurt that La La Land is the best modern day musical in who knows how long.) The film follows Stone’s Mia and Gosling’s jazz player Sebastian as they sing and dance and fall in love in Los Angeles. This marks Stone's first Golden Globe, and even more noteworthy, she beat out the unbeatable, HPFA-loving Meryl Streep! Stone also beat Annette Bening for 20th Century Women, Hailee Steinfeld for Edge of Seventeen, Lily Collins for Rules Don't Apply,
La La Land has already been named the Best Film of 2016 by the New York Film Critics Circle and won Best Picture at the Critics Choice Awards. It remains a frontrunner for the Oscars’ Best Picture alongside Manchester By the Sea and Moonlight.
Last year Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical for Joy. See the full list of 2016 Golden Globe winners here.
