Emma Stone Is the Year’s Highest-Paid Actress, Thanks to ‘La La Land’
Emma Stone has come a long way from her La La Land character Mia’s humble barista origins: she’s now the highest-paid actress of this year, thanks mostly to last year’s Damien Chazelle film that rocketed her around the awards circuit last winter.
According to Forbes’ report, which takes stock of each actress’s earnings over the 12-month period between June 2016 and July of this year, Stone takes the stop spot with $26 million, pre-tax. She’s above Jennifer Aniston ($25.5 million), who comes in second place thanks to her stakes in Emirates airlines, Smartwater and Aveeno, and Jennifer Lawrence ($24 million), whose Passengers did okay-but-not-great last year (but she also has Darren Aronofsky’s mother! coming up in the next few months).
Rounding out the top five are Melissa McCarthy ($18 million) and Mila Kunis ($15.5 million), and Emma Watson ($14 million), whose The Circle flopped a few months ago, but she was helped along by Beauty and the Beast, which is still 2017’s biggest film of the year. She’s tied with Charlize Theron, who also made $14 million thanks to Atomic Blonde.
